At church for the past 9 weeks we have doing a series on unshakable faith. There were many topics touched on and so much to learn and my youngest daughter summed it up so nicely when she prepared for leading our prayer meeting last night. I asked her if I could share it and she was more than happy for me to do so.
3 Questions were asked at the end of each topic:
Are you faced with doubt?
Are you faced with suffering?
Are you faced with compromise?
The answer is look to Jesus!!!!
What my daughter wanted to focus on was the first 2. They are so relevant to where we find ourselves at, at the moment. Each one of us in our own unique way. It doesn't matter what we are facing and how different everyone's circumstances are the answer for our circumstances stays the same - look to Jesus. We need to keep our eyes fixed on Him. He is the only one that can help. This world and the things of this world cannot help us.
When you are facing doubt turn to scripture
Matthew 14:28-31 says -
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and [John 21:7]walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind,14:30 Some manuscripts strong wind he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, [ch. 8:25, 26]“Lord, save me.” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, See ch. 6:30“O you of little faith, why did you [James 1:6]doubt?”
The moment we take our eyes off of Jesus and start focussing on our circumstances and the situations we are facing we start to sink that is why it is so important to look to Jesus.
Another scripture to look at is
Jeremiah 29:11 (My favourite) -
11 [Isa. 55:8, 9]For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare29:11 Or peace and not for evil, ch. 31:17to give you a future and a hope.
Remember Jesus has a plan and purpose for you, therefore don't doubt Him. Trust Him no matter what you are facing or what storms you are in and no mattter your troubles - give your doubts, troubles and storms to Jesus. He is the only One you can rely on and the only One that can relieve from all these things.
It is very obvious when we look at social media, the news etc to see that there are many suffering and we form part of the many. Some of us have lost loved ones whether by natural causes or Covid, others are suffering from other illnesses and even mental illnesses. We are living in uncertain and tumulteous times but we are not in this alone. We have Jesus on our side.
1 Peter 5:10 says
10 And ch. 1:6after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, 1 Cor. 1:9; 1 Thess. 2:12; 1 Tim. 6:12who has called you to his 2 Tim. 2:10eternal glory in Christ, will himself Heb. 13:21restore, Luke 22:32; Rom. 16:25confirm, strengthen, and establish you
What is important to realise is that the suffering you are going through whatever form it is in is only for a season. Yes, some seasons are long and others are short but they are still only a season. What is even more important is the fact that God is right there with you in the midst of it all. He will give you the strength and the comfort to get through it and in the end you will come out stronger.
God uses these challenging seasons to draw us into a deeper relationship with Him.
We might not see it right now and we may never see it but be assured that God has everything planned out and His plans are far greater than ours. Therfore this season will pass - in God's timing.
God has got you, He will never leave you or forsake you. He is allowing this season so that He can shape you into who He wants you to be and so that you can grow as a Christian. The biggest thing to remember is to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus during this season. Don't falter and give up on Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Continue to get to know Him and draw closer to Him.
