A.B. Curtiss -
Depression is just a feeling of helplessness. We are not really helpless. When we feel like nothing matters, that's just a feeling. Things and people do matter. When we feel like we can't go on, that's just a feeling. We can go on.
Depression can be caused by a complex combination of things or situations.
- The death of a loved one
- Job loss
- Work stress
- Family life
- Consistent loss of sleep
- Body chemistry disruptions
- Illnesses
- Poor self-image
- Unrealistic & negative thinking
- Conflicts in relationships
- Boredom
- Emptiness
- Lack of purpose
- Meaninglessness
- Feelings of alienation from family & friends, God, even life in general
All of above can be so overwhelming that a person simply wants to give up.
It is important to understand that anxiety & depression can either be your best friends or worst enemies. They can either hamper your thought processes thereby making it difficult for you to think clearly & act decisively. They can also rob you of enjoying life to it's fullest. But remember, they are actually simply indicators that something is important to you, meaning something is going on in you life. They are trying to get your attention & they attempt to warn you that there is possbile danger.
One should remember that depression and anxiety can be based on real or imagined feelings, therefore it is VERY IMPORTANT to be able to distinguish what is reality & what is imagined.
God has given us certain emotions that alerts us to danger. If we listen & respond properly - fear, anxiety, anger and depression can be helpful to us. If we don't listen & respond properly we could face scarring.
For emotion healing to take place it is neccessary to face one's fears & angers, which leads to the releasing of hidden energy and this leads to the creation of the ability to overcome anxiety & depression.
According to Bob Phillips ther are 3 Major Questions for Emotional Well-being
